Building

Tunnel

paths_and_structures

The Tunnel is a specialized passage structure in Timberborn that allows beavers to move through solid terrain blocks rather than climbing over or going around them. Tunnels are carved directly into hillsides, cliffs, and other elevated terrain, creating horizontal throughways that dramatically shorten travel distances in colonies built across uneven landscapes. They are essential for efficient pathing in maps with significant elevation changes or narrow terrain bottlenecks.

Building a Tunnel requires selecting a valid terrain block and designating the passage direction. Once constructed, beavers will automatically use Tunnels as part of their pathfinding, choosing the shortest available route to their destination. Tunnels are particularly valuable for connecting districts separated by ridges or hills, allowing haulers, workers, and other beavers to move goods and reach workplaces without lengthy detours. On maps with tight valleys or elevated plateaus, a well-placed network of Tunnels can transform colony logistics and significantly reduce travel time across the settlement.
