Path

The Path is the most fundamental building in Timberborn, serving as the connective tissue that links every structure in your colony to its District Center. Paths are completely free to build, requiring no resources and no beaver labor to construct; they are placed instantly wherever you need them. Almost every building in the game must be connected to a District Center through an unbroken chain of Paths, or beavers will simply refuse to use it. Beyond basic connectivity, each Path tile extends the district boundary, expanding the 19x19 buildable area around it and allowing Builders from nearby Builders Huts to reach new construction sites, rubble, and marked demolitions.
Strategically, Paths should be your first consideration when planning any settlement layout. Since they occupy ground level or the surface of solid structures, they define the navigable routes your beavers and Bots will take to reach workplaces, storage buildings, and amenities. Paths can connect to Stairs, Suspension Bridges, Slopes, Zipline Stations, and Tubeway Stations, enabling vertical and long-distance travel across your colony. While Paths themselves do not provide vertical movement, they form the horizontal backbone that all other transit infrastructure builds upon. Keeping your path network efficient reduces travel time, which directly improves colony productivity and responsiveness during droughts or emergencies.
Because Paths are free, there is no reason to be conservative with them. Lay Paths generously to ensure full coverage of your district and to prevent buildings from becoming disconnected during expansions or terraforming operations. When building multi-level structures using Platforms and Stairs, remember that Paths must run along the top surfaces to maintain connectivity. In complex builds involving Dams and Levees, Paths can also be placed on top of Dams to allow pedestrian crossing over water barriers. For new players, the most common mistake is forgetting to connect a newly placed building to the Path network, so always double-check connectivity before wondering why a structure sits idle.
