Biofuel is a late-game material in Timberborn, serving as the primary fuel source for Timberbots (the Folktails' mechanical workers). Timberbots consume Biofuel at a rate of nearly 2 units per day, and without it, they refuse to work and move 75% slower. This heavy consumption rate means that any colony relying on Timberbots needs a robust and continuous Biofuel production operation to keep its mechanical workforce functioning.
Biofuel is produced at the Refinery, a Folktails-exclusive science building that manufactures fuel from food and water. The Refinery is a versatile building that also produces Catalyst, so managing its recipe priorities is important. Since Timberbots are among the most powerful workers in the late game (capable of performing most beaver jobs without needing food, water, or sleep), the investment in Biofuel production is well justified by the productivity gains they provide.
To sustain a fleet of Timberbots, calculate your Biofuel needs carefully: each bot consumes roughly 2 units per day, so 10 bots require about 20 Biofuel daily. Ensure your Refinery has consistent power and input supplies, and build additional Refineries as your bot population grows. Stockpile Biofuel during periods of high production to buffer against supply interruptions. Running out of Biofuel does not destroy your bots, but it effectively paralyzes them, so maintaining reserves is critical for keeping your automated workforce productive.
