Automation Component
Weather Station
sensor
The Weather Station is an automation sensor that outputs a signal based on the current weather or season in the game. Players can configure it to activate during specific conditions such as drought, temperate weather, or Badwater seasons, enabling automated responses to seasonal changes. At 200 Science Points, the Weather Station provides colony-wide environmental awareness that forms the basis for many seasonal automation strategies.
The Weather Station's signal can be connected to any automatable building or component, making it exceptionally versatile. During drought seasons, it can automatically shut down water-intensive operations, activate emergency pumping, or switch food production to drought-resistant recipes. When temperate weather returns, it can reactivate farming operations and open water channels. By feeding the Weather Station signal through logic gates alongside other sensors, you can create nuanced responses such as 'activate backup water only during drought AND when reservoir is below 50%.'
Experienced players often build their entire colony automation around Weather Station signals. A common setup uses the Weather Station to trigger a cascade of preparation actions when drought begins: closing Floodgates to conserve water, pausing non-essential powered buildings to reduce energy consumption, and activating Badwater processing facilities. The Weather Station also pairs well with the Chronometer for time-of-day scheduling during specific seasons. Deploy at least one Weather Station per district to enable season-aware automation throughout your settlement. Its low science cost makes it one of the highest-value automation investments in the game.
