Badwater
liquid
Badwater is a contaminated fluid in Timberborn that poses a serious threat to your colony while simultaneously serving as the raw material for some of the most valuable late-game resources. Produced by Badwater Sources on the map, this toxic liquid contaminates any terrain it touches, killing crops and sickening beavers who drink or come into contact with it. During Badtides, Badwater Sources activate and flood areas with contaminated water, making containment a critical survival priority.
Despite its dangers, Badwater is the essential input for producing Extract at the Centrifuge, one of the most important mid-to-late game processes. Extract is then used to manufacture Catalyst (at the Refinery), Grease (at the Grease Factory), and Explosives (at the Explosives Factory), among other applications. Badwater Pumps and Badwater Rigs collect the contaminated fluid for processing, transforming a hazard into a resource. This dual nature makes Badwater one of the most strategically interesting resources in the game.
Managing Badwater requires a combination of defensive and offensive strategies. On the defensive side, build Contamination Barriers, levees, and dams to keep Badwater away from your clean water supply and inhabited areas. On the offensive side, invest in Badwater Pumps and Centrifuges to harvest and process it into valuable Extract. Timing is important: Badtides are periodic events, so prepare your containment infrastructure before they arrive. A well-designed Badwater processing facility, safely isolated from your main colony, can turn this hazard into a steady supply of Extract for fueling your late-game economy.
