Gravity Battery

power

The Gravity Battery is an advanced energy storage building available to both factions, requiring 1000 Science Points to unlock. Rather than generating power, it stores surplus energy produced by your generators and releases it when demand exceeds supply. Its capacity is measured in horsepower-hours (hph), with a base storage of 4,000 hph when built on a flat surface. For every additional block of height beneath the lifting weight, the capacity increases by 2,000 hph, reaching a maximum of 6,000 hph or more on elevated platforms. This makes placement on tall structures or cliff edges highly advantageous.

The Gravity Battery is essential for colonies that rely on variable power sources like Water Wheels and Wind Turbines. During periods of high generation (strong water flow or windy conditions), excess power charges the battery. When generation dips during droughts or calm weather, the stored energy discharges to keep critical buildings running. A fully charged 6,000 hph battery can supply 6,000 horsepower for one hour, 3,000 horsepower for two hours, or 12,000 horsepower for 30 minutes, providing flexible burst capacity matched to your colony's needs.

Strategic placement of Gravity Batteries can make the difference between a colony that survives droughts and one that collapses. Building them on tall platforms or cliff edges maximizes their capacity, and connecting them via Power Shafts to both generators and consumers ensures smooth energy flow. Multiple Gravity Batteries can be networked together for even larger reserves. Paired with Clutches for selective grid management, the Gravity Battery transforms an unreliable power grid into a resilient one, smoothing out the peaks and valleys of renewable energy generation across all seasons.
