unconventional
Pressure is a 256x256 unconventional map introduced in Version 1.0 that features Unstable Cores as its signature hazard, adding explosive unpredictability to the standard Timberborn challenges of Drought and Badtide management. These dormant remnants of human civilization are scattered across the terrain and can activate without warning, reshaping the landscape and potentially destroying nearby structures. The combination of weather hazards and Unstable Core activations makes Pressure one of the most demanding maps in the game, requiring constant vigilance and contingency planning.
The threat of Unstable Core activations fundamentally changes how players approach settlement design on this map. Building critical infrastructure like primary water storage, food warehouses, or population centers near an Unstable Core is extremely risky, as a single activation can destroy everything in the blast zone. Instead, players must distribute their essential buildings across multiple areas, creating redundant systems that can absorb the loss of any single district. Emergency resource stockpiles should be maintained in several locations, and evacuation paths must be planned so that beavers can quickly move away from an activating Core. The 256x256 size provides enough space for this distributed approach, but the Unstable Cores ensure that no area is truly safe.
Pressure demands advanced strategies that combine weather cycle preparation with disaster response planning. Players must not only manage water storage for Droughts and contamination barriers for Badtides, but also maintain the flexibility to rebuild and adapt after an Unstable Core reshapes the terrain. The altered landscape after an activation may create new water channels, block existing ones, or expose previously buried resources, requiring quick engineering responses. This map is strictly for experienced players who have already mastered the core mechanics on standard maps and are looking for the ultimate Timberborn challenge. Both factions face equal difficulty here, though Iron Teeth's faster construction capabilities may provide an edge in post-activation recovery.
