District Center

The District Center is the foundational building of every beaver settlement in Timberborn, serving as the administrative hub from which all district operations flow. Available to both Folktails and Iron Teeth at no resource cost, this 3x3 structure is placed at the very start of the game and employs 4 workers who double as builders and haulers. When construction projects are underway, these workers carry materials and build structures; when idle, they transport output from production buildings to storage. The District Center also holds the colony's starting goods and can store small amounts of collected rubble when other storage is full.
Strategically, the District Center defines the boundaries of a district through its connected path network. Paths extending beyond 70 tiles from the center shift the indicator from green to red, signaling decreased worker efficiency. This range mechanic is critical for planning district layouts and knowing when to establish a new district via a second District Center connected through a District Crossing. Players can also manage population migration between districts, designate default worker types (beavers or bots) for newly placed buildings, and rename the district by editing the District Center's name. The building transmits power, making it a useful node in your power grid as well.
For new players, the District Center should be placed centrally within the planned district to maximize path efficiency and minimize travel times for workers. As the colony grows and resource demands increase, additional districts with their own District Centers become necessary to maintain productivity. The District Center can be relocated mid-game, though this requires careful planning around resource management and path reconnection. Pairing it with a Builders' Hut and a Hauling Post early on helps distribute the workload and keeps your economy running smoothly during expansion phases.
