District Crossing

The District Crossing is the essential link between separate districts in Timberborn, enabling the transfer of beavers, bots, and goods across district boundaries. Costing 250 Science Points to unlock and requiring 30 Logs and 15 Planks to build, this 2x3 structure is available to both Folktails and Iron Teeth factions. Two District Centers cannot share a connected path without a District Crossing separating them, making this building mandatory for any multi-district settlement. Each side of the crossing operates independently within its respective district, with its own workforce and storage settings.

The District Crossing stores up to 30 of each resource per side and employs up to 10 crossing workers per side, who benefit from a 100% carrying capacity bonus. Players manage import and export settings through the Distribution window, choosing between three options: do not import, import if needed, and import always. This granular control allows precise resource management between districts, ensuring critical supplies like Water or food reach where they are needed most. Note that haulers cannot pick up from or deliver to this building directly, though builders can extract goods for construction as needed.

Timing the construction of your first District Crossing is a key strategic decision. Once your initial district's path network approaches the 70-tile efficiency limit of its District Center, it is time to plan a second district. Place the District Crossing at the border between your established territory and the new expansion zone, then build a new District Center on the far side. Proper import and export configuration prevents resource shortages in fledgling districts while avoiding over-draining your main settlement. The District Crossing replaced the older District Gate, Distribution Post, and Drop-off Point buildings, consolidating inter-district logistics into a single, more manageable structure.
