Geothermal Engine

power

The Geothermal Engine is a powerful late-game power generator available to both factions, introduced in version 1.0. Requiring 160 Science Points to unlock, it must be placed directly on a Geothermal Field tile to function. Once operational, it produces an impressive 400 horsepower continuously, with no fuel consumption, no water requirement, and no beaver workers needed. This makes it one of the most efficient and maintenance-free power sources in the entire game, rivaling or exceeding the output of fuel-burning Engines while demanding nothing in return.

The primary limitation of the Geothermal Engine is its strict placement requirement. Geothermal Fields are map features that appear in fixed locations, and their availability varies significantly between maps. Some maps offer multiple Geothermal Fields, enabling players to build a substantial geothermal power grid, while others may have none at all. When planning a colony on a map with Geothermal Fields, securing these locations early and connecting them to your Power Shaft network should be a high priority, as each field can support a Geothermal Engine that provides reliable, drought-proof power.

The Geothermal Engine is a game-changer for both the Folktails and the Iron Teeth. For Folktails, it provides a massive, worker-free power source that complements Wind Turbines and Water Wheels. For Iron Teeth, it can replace or supplement multiple Engines, freeing up the Log supply chain for construction and other needs. Connecting Geothermal Engines to Gravity Batteries allows excess power to be stored for peak-demand periods. On maps that feature these volcanic hotspots, the Geothermal Engine is often the cornerstone of a thriving, self-sustaining power grid that can support even the most ambitious endgame projects.
