Logs

Logs are the most fundamental resource in Timberborn, serving as the backbone of virtually every production chain in the game. Harvested by beavers working at Lumberjack Flags, Logs are obtained by felling fully grown trees such as Birch, Pine, Maple, Oak, and Chestnut Trees. Because trees take several days to regrow, sustainable forestry is critical; pairing Lumberjack Flags with Forester buildings ensures a continuous cycle of planting and harvesting that keeps your colony supplied through even the longest droughts.

The uses for Logs are extraordinarily diverse. They can be processed into Planks at a Lumber Mill, turned into Paper at a Paper Mill, or used as fuel in Grills and Bakeries for cooking food such as Grilled Potatoes, Grilled Chestnuts, and Bread. Logs also serve as a direct construction material for early-game buildings including housing, paths, and basic infrastructure. In the Smelter, Logs are consumed alongside Scrap Metal to produce Metal Blocks, making them essential even for late-game metalworking. Their role as both a raw material and a fuel source means that Log shortages can cascade into food, construction, and manufacturing crises simultaneously.

Strategic stockpiling of Logs is one of the most important habits for any Timberborn player. It is wise to maintain a reserve of at least 100 to 200 Logs before a drought hits, since tree growth halts during dry seasons and consumption continues unabated. Planting a diverse mix of fast-growing trees (like Birch and Pine) alongside slower, higher-yield varieties (like Oak and Maple) provides both short-term supply and long-term stability. Because Logs feed into Planks, Gears, Treated Planks, Paper, and fuel for cooking, they sit at the very top of the resource pyramid, and managing their flow is the single most important logistical challenge in the game.
