Large Water Pump

water

The Large Water Pump is a Folktails-exclusive upgrade to the basic Water Pump, offering dramatically improved water extraction with the ability to pump from up to 4 blocks deep. Unlocked at 500 Science Points, this building employs multiple workers and can match the output of approximately five standard Water Pumps when fully staffed, making it a massive upgrade in both efficiency and reliability. The deeper pumping range means it continues to function as water levels drop during droughts, providing a critical buffer against dehydration that basic Water Pumps simply cannot offer.

The Large Water Pump is a cornerstone of Folktails water management strategy, bridging the gap between the free but limited Water Pump and the powered Mechanical Fluid Pump. Its ability to reach 4 blocks deep makes it effective alongside dams and reservoirs, where deeper water pools accumulate behind barriers. A single Large Water Pump positioned at the base of a well-designed dam can supply water to a substantial population, especially when paired with Water Tanks for storage during temperate seasons. The building does not require power, relying instead on manual labor, which makes it accessible before your power grid is fully established.

Folktails players should prioritize unlocking the Large Water Pump as soon as their colony has a stable science output, since drought survival is the single most important challenge in Timberborn. Place Large Water Pumps at the deepest accessible points along your water network, ideally behind dams where water accumulates to maximum depth. Having multiple Large Water Pumps spread across different water sources provides redundancy in case one source dries up. As your colony advances further, the Mechanical Fluid Pump offers even greater capabilities with pressurized fluid movement, but the Large Water Pump remains valuable as a reliable, power-free option for districts without electrical infrastructure.
