Carrots
food_raw
Carrots are an early-game food crop in Timberborn, grown and harvested by beavers working at Farmhouses. Each Carrot crop takes 4 days to grow on irrigated farmland, and a single tile yields 3 Carrots upon harvest. With an effective yield of about 0.75 food per day per tile, Carrots are one of the most space-efficient crops available, making them an excellent choice for colonies with limited farmland.
Unlike Berries, Carrots satisfy both hunger and the Carrot Nutrition need, giving beavers a well-being bonus when consumed. This makes Carrots a meaningful upgrade over basic Berry gathering and a strong motivation to invest in farming infrastructure early. Carrots are consumed directly without any cooking or processing, which means they require no additional buildings, fuel, or power beyond the Farmhouse itself.
For maximum efficiency, plant Carrots on irrigated tiles close to your Farmhouses to minimize travel time for workers. Because Carrot crops are destroyed upon harvest and must be replanted, Farmhouse workers cycle continuously between planting and harvesting. During droughts, irrigation stops and crops will not grow, so it is wise to stockpile Carrots in advance of dry seasons. Carrots store well in Farmhouses and warehouses, and maintaining a reserve of 50 to 100 Carrots per 20 beavers provides a comfortable buffer against crop failures.
