Berries

Berries are the most basic food source in Timberborn, harvested from Blueberry Bushes by beavers working at Gatherer Flags. As an early-game food, Berries are immediately available without any processing or cooking infrastructure, making them the go-to nutrition source for fledgling colonies. Blueberry Bushes can be planted by Foresters and regrow after harvesting, providing a renewable supply as long as the bushes have access to irrigated soil.
While Berries satisfy basic hunger, they do not fulfill any additional Nutrition needs, which means beavers will prefer other food sources (such as Carrots, Grilled Potatoes, or Bread) when they are available. This makes Berries a reliable fallback food rather than a primary long-term diet. For the Iron Teeth faction, Berries have an additional critical role: they are required for beaver reproduction at Breeding Pods, making them essential regardless of what other food sources are available.
Strategically, Berries are most valuable in the early game and as drought insurance. Blueberry Bushes grow relatively quickly and can be planted in forested areas alongside trees, making efficient use of limited irrigated land. Maintain a healthy number of bushes near your Gatherer Flags to ensure steady collection. As your colony develops more sophisticated food production (Grills, Bakeries, Fermenters), Berries will naturally become a smaller portion of your food supply, but never eliminate them entirely. Their role as a low-maintenance safety net and as a Breeding Pod input for Iron Teeth keeps them relevant throughout the entire game.
