Awe
awe
Awe is a positive need in Timberborn that represents beavers' sense of wonder and admiration inspired by grand structures. It is satisfied by being near Monuments, which are large, impressive buildings constructed to inspire the colony. Awe functions similarly to Aesthetics in that it is a proximity-based need: beavers gain Awe points simply by being near a Monument during their daily activities. However, Monuments are significantly larger, more expensive, and more impactful than Decorations, providing substantial Well-Being bonuses that can push beaver performance to the highest tiers.
Monuments come in several tiers with increasing Well-Being bonuses. Standard monuments provide approximately 10 Awe points per hour of proximity. Folktails can build the Farmer Monument and Iron Teeth the Laborer Monument, each granting a +3 Well-Being bonus. Higher-tier monuments include the Brazier of Bonding (Folktails) and Flame of Unity (Iron Teeth) at +5 bonus, and the Fountain of Joy (Folktails) and Tribute to Ingenuity (Iron Teeth) at +8 bonus. The ultimate Awe structures are the faction Wonders: the Earth Recultivator for Folktails and the Earth Repopulator for Iron Teeth, which provide 100 Awe points per hour with only -1 decay per day, making them extraordinarily powerful Well-Being anchors for an entire district.
Strategically, Monuments should be placed in central locations where the maximum number of beavers pass by regularly. Since their Awe effect is proximity-based, a Monument in the middle of a residential or commercial district serves far more beavers than one on the colony's outskirts. Building lower-tier Monuments early provides immediate Well-Being gains, while saving resources for Wonders as a long-term goal. The Earth Repopulator and Earth Recultivator are end-game projects that require massive resource investment but provide unparalleled Awe satisfaction. Combining Monuments with Decorations along major pathways creates a synergy where beavers satisfy both Aesthetics and Awe needs during their normal commute, maximizing Well-Being gains without requiring extra leisure time.
