Aquifer Drill

The Aquifer Drill is a specialized building introduced in Timberborn Version 1.0 that activates natural Aquifer deposits to produce flowing water during temperate seasons. Unlocked at 1000 Science Points and available to both factions, this structure is placed directly on Aquifer tiles found on certain maps. When powered, the Aquifer Drill causes water to flow from its base, creating a new water source that supplements natural rivers and rainfall. The building also provides 400 horsepower of power output, matching the Geothermal Engine, making it both a water source and a power generator in one package.
The Aquifer Drill fundamentally changes water management on maps that feature Aquifer deposits, providing a controllable, renewable water source that activates during temperate seasons. Unlike natural water sources that depend on weather patterns, the Aquifer Drill gives players direct control over water production through its power connection: supply power and water flows; cut the power and production stops. This controllability makes it excellent for managing water levels in reservoirs and irrigation systems. The 400 hp power output is a significant bonus, as it can feed back into your power grid to help run other buildings like Mechanical Fluid Pumps or Centrifuges.
On maps with Aquifer deposits, the Aquifer Drill should be a high-priority research target, as the combination of water production and power generation addresses two of the game's most critical resource needs simultaneously. Place Aquifer Drills on available Aquifer tiles and connect them to your power grid, then use dams and channels to direct the flowing water into your reservoir system. During droughts, the Aquifer stops producing water, so you will still need robust water storage infrastructure to bridge dry periods. The Aquifer Drill appears in the Water building category only if the current map contains Aquifer tiles, so its availability varies by map. When available, it represents one of the most efficient investments in the game, providing both water security and energy production from a single building footprint.
