Badwater Rig

The Badwater Rig is a Folktails-exclusive building that allows direct collection of Badwater from Badwater Sources, offering a more efficient and controlled approach to contamination management than the standard Badwater Pump. Unlocked at 750 Science Points, this specialized structure is placed directly on top of a Badwater Source, sealing it off and collecting the Badwater output before it can contaminate the surrounding water supply. Once a Badwater Rig is built on a source, that source ceases to output Badwater into the environment entirely, effectively neutralizing the contamination threat at its origin.
The Badwater Rig's ability to completely suppress a Badwater Source's environmental output makes it one of the most powerful defensive tools in the Folktails' arsenal against contamination. Unlike the Badwater Pump, which extracts already-dispersed contamination from water bodies, the Rig intercepts Badwater at the source before it ever enters the water system. This proactive approach is far more efficient, as it prevents the contamination from spreading and eliminates the need for extensive downstream cleanup. The collected Badwater can be sent to Centrifuges for processing into Extract, converting a hazard into a valuable resource.
Folktails players should prioritize building Badwater Rigs on active Badwater Sources as soon as they become accessible, since preventing contamination is always more efficient than cleaning it up afterward. If a Badwater Rig is demolished, the underlying source resumes its Badwater output, so treat these buildings as permanent installations. For comprehensive Badwater management, combine Badwater Rigs on sources with Badwater Pumps for any residual contamination in the water and Badwater Domes for sources you want to control but not actively harvest. The Badwater Rig and Centrifuge together form a self-sustaining production chain that turns an environmental hazard into a steady supply of Extract for advanced manufacturing.
