Extract

processed_material

Extract is a pivotal mid-to-late game material in Timberborn, produced by processing Badwater at a Centrifuge. As the refined output of contaminated water, Extract serves as the gateway ingredient for several of the game's most important production chains. The Centrifuge is one of the first late-game buildings most colonies construct, and establishing a reliable Extract supply is essential for progressing beyond the mid-game plateau.

Extract has an impressively diverse range of uses. It is a key input for producing Catalyst at the Refinery (combined with Maple Syrup), Grease at the Grease Factory (combined with Canola Oil), and Explosives at the Explosives Factory. Extract is also consumed by the Detailer, Agora, and Decontamination Pod for various colony services, and it plays a role in the Advanced Breeding Pod for beaver reproduction. Additionally, Efficient Mines consume Extract as part of their Scrap Metal production process, creating a feedback loop where Extract helps sustain the metal supply chain.

Because Extract feeds into so many downstream products, shortages can ripple across your entire late-game economy. Prioritize building multiple Centrifuges once Badwater processing begins, and ensure your Badwater collection infrastructure (Badwater Pumps and Rigs) can keep up with demand. Store Extract in Tanks and monitor your reserves carefully. Since Extract production depends on Badwater availability, which fluctuates with Badtide cycles, consider building Badwater storage to buffer against dry periods between contamination events.
