Badwater Dome

The Badwater Dome is a Folktails-exclusive structure that seals a Badwater Source under a protective dome, giving players direct control over whether the source outputs contamination into the environment. Unlocked at 500 Science Points, this building is placed directly on top of a Badwater Source and can be toggled open or closed at will. When closed, the dome completely prevents Badwater from entering the surrounding water supply; when opened, the source resumes its normal contamination output. This on-demand control makes the Badwater Dome an exceptionally flexible tool for managing contamination timing.

The Badwater Dome differs from the Badwater Rig in a crucial way: while the Rig actively harvests Badwater from a source for processing, the Dome simply caps the source without collecting anything. This makes the Dome ideal for sources you want to suppress permanently or control strategically without investing in a full Badwater processing chain. For example, you might dome a Badwater Source near your main water supply to protect it, while leaving sources in remote areas uncapped for later harvesting with Badwater Rigs. The toggle mechanism also enables advanced strategies like releasing controlled amounts of Badwater during temperate seasons when water flow can dilute it safely.

Folktails players should consider the Badwater Dome as their first line of defense against contamination, especially for Badwater Sources located near critical water infrastructure like dams, reservoirs, and Water Pump installations. Its 500 Science Point cost is relatively modest, and the ability to permanently seal a contamination source provides peace of mind that no amount of Badwater Pumping can match. For a complete contamination management strategy, use Badwater Domes on sources near your settlement's water supply, Badwater Rigs on sources you want to harvest for Extract production, and Badwater Pumps to clean up any residual contamination in waterways. This layered approach ensures your beavers always have access to clean drinking water.
