Medium Water Tank
storage
The Medium Water Tank is a mid-tier liquid storage building unlocked for 250 Science Points, offering a substantial 300-unit storage capacity for liquid goods. Holding ten times more than the Small Water Tank, the Medium Tank stores the equivalent of 60 full blocks of water in a single compact structure, making it the standard liquid storage solution for colonies that have moved past the initial survival phase. Like all tanks, it prevents evaporation and stores fluid far more efficiently per tile than open-air reservoirs.
The Medium Water Tank is often the first major drought-proofing investment for growing colonies. Its 300-unit capacity provides a meaningful buffer that can sustain a medium-sized population through several days of drought, buying time for your reservoir systems to be expanded or for the next wet season to arrive. Place Medium Water Tanks near your colony's main water distribution network, close to Water Pumps that fill them and accessible to haulers who distribute water to residential buildings, kitchens, and other water-consuming facilities.
When scaling your water storage infrastructure, Medium Water Tanks provide the best balance of capacity and cost for mid-game colonies. Build several Medium Tanks across your settlement rather than concentrating all storage in one location, which creates hauling bottlenecks. Dedicate separate tanks for different liquid types if your colony processes multiple fluids. For late-game colonies with large populations and extended drought cycles, upgrade to Large Water Tanks (1200 capacity) at central hubs while maintaining Medium Tanks at satellite locations. Combine your tank network with Floodgate-controlled reservoirs and Levee-walled water storage for a comprehensive drought survival strategy.
