Levee
landscaping
The Levee is a full-height water barrier that completely blocks horizontal water flow through its tile, unlike the Dam which only blocks up to 0.65 blocks. Levees are free to build with no Science Point cost and no construction materials, making them one of the most accessible and important landscaping structures in Timberborn. As a full one-block barrier, the Levee forms a watertight seal that prevents any water from passing through at or below its height, which is essential for building proper reservoirs, canals, and flood protection systems.
Levees are the backbone of serious water engineering in Timberborn. While Dams are useful for partial barriers and overflow control, Levees provide the airtight containment needed for deep reservoirs and high-pressure water systems. They work in concert with Floodgates, which provide adjustable openings in otherwise solid Levee walls. A typical reservoir design uses Levees for the walls and one or more Floodgates for controlled water intake and release. Levees can also be stacked to create taller barriers, though at higher elevations you may prefer using terrain blocks placed by the Terraforming Station.
When planning your water infrastructure, use Levees to define the boundaries of reservoirs, irrigation channels, and flood barriers. Position them along riverbanks to contain water during high-flow periods, and build complete enclosures around water storage areas to prevent leakage. Unlike Dams, you cannot place Paths directly on top of Levees in the same way, so plan pedestrian crossings separately using Suspension Bridges or adjacent Dam segments. For contamination management, pair Levees with Contamination Barriers (Folktails) or Irrigation Barriers (Iron Teeth) to create zones that are both waterproof and contamination-proof during Badtide events.
