Hygiene, represented in-game as the Wet Fur need, is a basic need for all beavers in Timberborn. It decays at 30 points per day, with a maximum of 100 and a minimum of 0. Unlike critical needs such as Hunger and Thirst, an unsatisfied Wet Fur need will not kill beavers. However, keeping beavers clean and damp contributes to their Well-Being score, which in turn affects Work Speed, Growth Speed, Movement Speed, and Life Expectancy. Beavers are, after all, aquatic creatures by nature, and maintaining their Wet Fur is both a comfort and a productivity booster.
There are several ways to satisfy the Wet Fur need. The simplest method is to build paths through flowing water, allowing beavers to get wet during their daily commute. If natural water access is not convenient, dedicated buildings serve the purpose: the Shower (available to both factions) requires its pipe to be submerged in clean water but does not consume any water, making it an efficient option. Iron Teeth have access to the Double Shower, which serves more beavers simultaneously. The Lido satisfies both Wet Fur and the Fun need, making it a versatile two-in-one building. Swimming Pools also help satisfy this need. Water immersion restores 50 points per hour, while Showers restore at 100 points per hour, making Showers the most efficient option.
Managing Hygiene is relatively straightforward compared to survival needs, but it should not be neglected. Placing Showers near residential areas ensures beavers can quickly satisfy their Wet Fur need during breaks. During droughts, natural water paths may dry up, so dedicated Shower buildings connected to stored water become essential. Players should note that Showers require water access but do not consume it, making them drought-resilient as long as some water remains in their pipes. Investing in Wet Fur satisfaction early provides a steady Well-Being bonus that compounds through increased Work Speed and longer beaver lifespans, making it one of the more cost-effective Well-Being investments available.
