Social Life is a positive need in Timberborn that reflects beavers' desire to gather and socialize with one another. As communal creatures, beavers thrive when they have opportunities to spend time together outside of work hours. Satisfying the Social Life need contributes to individual Well-Being, which in turn unlocks bonuses to Work Speed, Growth Speed, Movement Speed, and Life Expectancy. Social buildings restore approximately 60 points per hour when visited, and beavers will seek them out during their leisure time if the need is depleted.
Several buildings satisfy different Social Life sub-needs. The Campfire is an early-game social building available to both factions, accommodating 5 visitors at a time on a 3x3 footprint for 15 Logs. It must be built on the ground. The Rooftop Terrace accommodates 8 to 10 visitors on a 3x2 footprint and must be placed atop other buildings, making it ideal for vertical city designs. The Contemplation Spot (formerly the Shrine) offers a quieter social option. For more advanced social venues, Folktails can build the Agora (formerly the Temple), which provides a +3 Well-Being bonus, and the Dance Hall with a +5 bonus. Iron Teeth have their own equivalents for higher-tier social gatherings.
Managing Social Life requires placing social buildings within easy walking distance of residential and work areas. Since beavers only visit these buildings during their free time, long commutes can prevent them from reaching social venues before their next shift begins. Building multiple Campfires or Rooftop Terraces spread across the colony ensures coverage for all districts. Rooftop Terraces are particularly efficient because they use vertical space that would otherwise go to waste. As the colony grows, upgrading to higher-tier social buildings (Agora, Dance Hall) provides larger Well-Being bonuses per visit, making them worthwhile investments for pushing overall Well-Being toward the highest threshold bonuses.
