Logs to Planks
common
The Logs to Planks recipe is the most fundamental crafting operation in Timberborn, transforming 1 Log into 1 Plank at the Lumber Mill. This conversion takes 1.3 hours per batch and requires 50 horsepower to operate, making it one of the least power-hungry production processes in the game. Available to all factions as a common recipe, it forms the bedrock of every settlement's construction and manufacturing pipeline. Without a steady supply of Planks, virtually no mid-game or late-game building can be constructed.
Planks produced by this recipe feed into a staggering number of downstream production chains. The Gear Workshop consumes Planks to produce Gears, which are essential for advanced structures and Bot parts. The Wood Workshop combines Planks with Pine Resin to create Treated Planks, a critical material for mining operations and high-tier buildings. Planks are also directly required as construction materials for most buildings in the game, from housing to water management structures. For the Folktails faction, the Lumber Mill employs 1 worker and occupies a relatively small footprint, making it easy to scale up production by building multiple mills side by side.
To optimize throughput, players should ensure a continuous supply of Logs by planting fast-growing tree species near their Lumber Mills and employing enough Lumberjacks to keep up with demand. Since each mill processes one Log every 1.3 hours, a single Lumber Mill can supply roughly one Gear Workshop (which also takes 3 hours per Gear) or keep pace with moderate construction demands. For larger settlements, building 3 to 5 Lumber Mills in parallel is common practice. Iron Teeth players should consider upgrading to the Industrial Lumber Mill, which processes the same recipe in only 0.63 hours with 75 horsepower, effectively doubling throughput per building.
