Treated Planks

Treated Planks are an advanced construction material in Timberborn, produced by combining Planks and Pine Resin at a Wood Workshop. Unlocking the Wood Workshop requires 800 Science Points, and constructing one costs 20 Logs, 40 Planks, and 40 Gears, making it a significant mid-game investment. Once operational, the Wood Workshop transforms ordinary Planks into weather-resistant Treated Planks that are essential for the colony's more sophisticated structures.
Over 26 different buildings in Timberborn require Treated Planks for construction, including critical late-game facilities such as the Advanced Breeding Pod, Badwater Rig, Coffee Brewery, Dance Hall, Detailer, and Dirt Excavator. Treated Planks are also consumed by mining operations, as Mines and Efficient Mines use them (along with other materials) to produce Scrap Metal indefinitely. This consumption-based use means that, unlike most construction materials, Treated Planks have ongoing demand even after all buildings are constructed.
Producing Treated Planks requires a reliable supply of both Planks and Pine Resin. Pine Resin is harvested from mature Pine trees by tappers working at Tapper's Shacks, which means you need a healthy Pine forest alongside your regular lumber operations. Balancing Pine tree tapping (for resin) against Pine tree felling (for Logs) is a key strategic consideration. Since Pine Resin harvesting does not destroy the tree, you can tap the same Pines repeatedly while reserving other tree species for logging. Planning your forestry layout to include dedicated Pine groves for resin production will ensure a smooth and uninterrupted supply of Treated Planks.
