Pine Resin

raw_material

Pine Resin is a specialized material in Timberborn that is harvested from fully grown Pine trees by tappers working at Tapper's Shacks. Each Pine tree yields 2 Pine Resin per harvest, and a single tapper can collect roughly 20 to 22 Pine Resin during a full 16-hour workday. Importantly, tapping a tree does not destroy it, so the same Pine can be harvested repeatedly over its lifetime, making Pine Resin a renewable resource as long as your Pine forests remain healthy.

The primary use for Pine Resin is in the production of Treated Planks at the Wood Workshop, where it is combined with Planks to create this advanced construction material. Treated Planks are required for dozens of late-game buildings and are consumed by mining operations, so the demand for Pine Resin scales steadily as your colony grows. Pine Resin is also used directly in the construction of certain buildings like the Observatory, adding another draw on your supply.

Managing Pine Resin production requires careful forestry planning. Since Pine trees serve double duty as both a source of Logs (when felled) and Pine Resin (when tapped), you must decide which Pines to designate for tapping and which to leave for lumberjacks. A dedicated Pine grove near your Tapper's Shacks is the most efficient approach, ensuring tappers have short travel distances and plenty of mature trees to work with. Remember that Foresters will replant Pines automatically if configured to do so, keeping the cycle going indefinitely. Prioritize Pine Resin production once you unlock the Wood Workshop, as Treated Plank shortages can bottleneck your entire late-game progression.
