Explosives Factory

landscaping

The Explosives Factory is a powered landscaping building unlocked for 400 Science Points that produces Explosives from Badwater. As the sole source of Explosives in the game, this factory is a prerequisite for all Dynamite-based terraforming operations. Without a functioning Explosives Factory, you cannot place any Dynamite, Double Dynamite, or Triple Dynamite charges, making it one of the most important production buildings for colonies that need to reshape their terrain. The factory requires power to operate and consumes Badwater as its primary input resource.

The Explosives Factory creates an interesting relationship between contamination and utility. Badwater, which is normally a dangerous hazard that contaminates terrain and sickens beavers during Badtide events, becomes a valuable industrial resource when processed into Explosives. This means colonies on maps with frequent Badtides can turn a threat into an advantage by collecting and routing Badwater to their Explosives Factory. Iron Teeth colonies can use the Badwater Discharge to ensure a steady Badwater supply even during droughts, while Folktails can capture Badwater during Badtide events using reservoirs protected by Contamination Barriers and Sluices.

When placing your Explosives Factory, consider proximity to both your Badwater source and your active terraforming sites. The factory needs a reliable power supply (from Water Wheels, Windmills, or other power sources) and a Badwater delivery system, which typically involves canals or pipes routed from contaminated water sources. Build storage capacity for finished Explosives near your construction areas so Builders can quickly collect charges for Dynamite placement. For large-scale terraforming projects, consider building multiple Explosives Factories to increase production throughput, especially when running Triple Dynamite operations that consume 3 Explosives per charge.
