Explosives are a late-game material in Timberborn used for terrain manipulation and landscape reshaping on a dramatic scale. Produced at the Explosives Factory from Badwater, Explosives enable the construction of Dynamite and Triple Dynamite charges that can blast through rock and terrain to create new waterways, open up blocked areas, or reshape the map to suit your colony's needs. At equal efficiency, an Explosives Factory consumes approximately 1.67 Badwater per hour.
Dynamite charges come in two varieties: the standard Dynamite (requiring 1 Explosive) and the more powerful Triple Dynamite (requiring 1 Explosive plus 2 Extract). These charges are placed using the Detonator building and can remove terrain blocks, allowing you to carve channels, lower ground levels, and create passages that would otherwise be impossible to build through. This capability is transformative for water management, as you can open new river paths, drain flooded areas, or connect isolated water bodies.
Producing Explosives efficiently requires a reliable Badwater supply, which in turn depends on having Badwater Pumps collecting contaminated water from Badwater Sources or contaminated areas. Since Explosives are consumed on use rather than recycled, plan your production around specific terraforming goals rather than stockpiling indefinitely. That said, keeping a reserve of 10 to 20 Explosives on hand allows you to respond quickly to unexpected flooding or to seize terraforming opportunities as they arise. Coordinate your Explosives Factory with your broader Badwater processing chain to avoid competing with Extract production at the Centrifuge.
