Books

Books are a mid-game consumable good in Timberborn, produced at the Printing Press from Paper. Beavers consume Books by reading them, which satisfies the reading need and provides a significant well-being bonus. Unlike food items that satisfy hunger, Books cater to the intellectual needs of your beaver population, contributing to their overall happiness and productivity. The Printing Press turns Paper into Books, completing a production chain that starts with Logs at the Paper Mill.

The full production chain for Books runs from trees through three processing steps: Lumberjack Flags fell trees to produce Logs, Paper Mills convert Logs into Paper, and Printing Presses turn Paper into Books. Each step requires its own building, workers, and in some cases power, making the Book supply chain a meaningful investment. However, the well-being bonus from satisfied reading needs makes this investment worthwhile, as happy beavers work more efficiently.

Plan your Book production based on your colony's population size, as more beavers means more readers consuming Books. Build your Printing Press in a central location with good access to Paper supplies. Since Books are consumed and destroyed when read, demand is ongoing and scales with population. Maintain a buffer stock to prevent interruptions in supply, especially during droughts when labor shortages may slow production. Books are one of several well-being goods (alongside Coffee and leisure buildings) that keep your colony running at peak efficiency.
