Lumberjack Flag

The Lumberjack Flag is the most fundamental wood production building in Timberborn, available to both Folktails and Iron Teeth from the very start of the game at no cost. This 1x1 structure employs a single lumberjack who fells trees within the designated work area to produce Logs, the primary construction resource in the game. The work area extends 20 blocks left and right, 21 blocks behind, and 18 blocks ahead from the entrance, creating a large zone that can encompass dozens of mature trees. Every tree type takes 1.2 hours to fell (reduced by higher Work Speed stats), and the resulting Logs fuel virtually every production chain in the game.

Logs are the cornerstone of the Timberborn economy, serving as the raw material for Planks (via the Lumber Mill or Industrial Lumber Mill), fuel for food processing buildings like the Grill, Bakery, and Food Factory, and a direct construction material for many early buildings. A single lumberjack can keep a steady supply of wood flowing to your settlement, but growing colonies will need multiple Lumberjack Flags covering different forest sections. Position each flag near a Forester to ensure that harvested areas are promptly replanted; the wiki notes that one Forester can keep up with approximately four lumberjacks, so plan your ratios accordingly.

There are a few important considerations when managing your lumberjacks. Beavers assigned to tree felling face a rare occupational hazard called Chipped Teeth, which reduces their cutting efficiency by 75% until treated at a Teeth Grindstone. Make sure each district has access to this medical building. Lumberjacks can also fell trees that are submerged underwater, as long as the flag itself is on dry land and the beaver can reach the trees via Stairs. This makes the Lumberjack Flag useful for clearing flooded forests or harvesting trees in river basins. Pair your Lumberjack Flags with Foresters, Lumber Mills, and Gear Workshops to build a complete wood processing pipeline that supports your colony's construction and crafting needs.
