Chestnuts

food_ingredient

Chestnuts are a mid-game ingredient in Timberborn, gathered from Chestnut Trees by beavers working at Gatherer Flags. Chestnut Trees are large, slow-growing trees that produce Chestnuts once they reach maturity. Like other gathered ingredients, Chestnuts cannot be eaten raw and must be cooked at a Grill to produce the edible Grilled Chestnuts. Foresters can plant Chestnut Trees to establish dedicated groves for Chestnut production.

Chestnut Trees serve a dual purpose in your colony: they provide Chestnuts for food and Logs when felled. This creates an interesting management decision, as you must balance the value of ongoing Chestnut harvests against the immediate need for Logs. Since Chestnut Trees take a long time to grow, felling them for wood means waiting a significant period before replacements mature enough to bear fruit again.

For efficient Chestnut production, establish dedicated Chestnut groves near Gatherer Flags and protect these trees from being felled by your lumberjacks. Configure your Forester to plant Chestnut Trees in designated areas, and keep your gathering zones separate from logging zones. Chestnuts provide a food source that does not compete for farmland, which makes them particularly valuable when irrigated growing space is limited. Pair your Chestnut gathering with a well-stocked Grill to convert them into Grilled Chestnuts promptly.
