Gatherer Flag

food

The Gatherer Flag is one of the earliest and most essential food production buildings available in Timberborn, accessible to both Folktails and Iron Teeth from the very start of the game. This simple 1x1 structure costs nothing to build and employs a single worker who collects wild produce from nearby bushes and trees. Folktails gatherers harvest Berries, Chestnuts, and Dandelions, while Iron Teeth gatherers focus on Mangrove Fruits and Coffee Beans. With a generous work area spanning roughly 40 by 41 tiles (extending 18 to 21 tiles in each direction), a single Gatherer Flag can cover a substantial portion of your foraging territory, making it an excellent starting point for food security before you establish any Farmhouse infrastructure.

Each plant type offers different yields and regeneration rates, so understanding these differences is key to optimizing your gathering output. Blueberry Bushes produce 3 Berries per harvest at roughly 0.25 resources per day once mature, while Chestnut Trees yield 3 Chestnuts at approximately 0.375 per day. Mangrove Trees are particularly productive, offering 4 Mangrove Fruits at 0.4 per day after initial growth. Coffee Bushes produce just 1 Coffee Bean per harvest but remain valuable for fueling the Iron Teeth Coffee Brewery later in the game. Because all of these plants can be cultivated by a Forester, pairing your Gatherer Flag with a nearby Forester ensures a steady, renewable supply of raw food and specialty ingredients throughout the entire game.

Strategically, the Gatherer Flag serves as the backbone of early-game nutrition and remains useful well into the mid-game as a supplement to farmed crops. Place it near dense clusters of bushes and trees for maximum efficiency, and consider overlapping its range with a Forester to keep harvested plants replenished. The gathered resources can be consumed raw (in the case of Berries, Chestnuts, and Mangrove Fruits) or processed further: Chestnuts can be sent to a Grill for Grilled Chestnuts, and Coffee Beans supply the Coffee Brewery for a powerful wellbeing boost. As your colony grows and you transition to more advanced food production chains involving the Bakery, Gristmill, or Food Factory, the Gatherer Flag remains a reliable fallback, especially during droughts when irrigated crops may fail.
