Soybean

food_ingredient

Soybeans are a mid-game ingredient exclusive to the Iron Teeth faction in Timberborn, cultivated at Farmhouses on irrigated farmland. Like Cassava, Soybeans cannot be consumed raw and must be processed at a Fermenter to create the edible Fermented Soybeans. What distinguishes Soybean processing from Cassava fermentation is that it requires an additional ingredient: Canola Oil. This added complexity places Soybeans later in the Iron Teeth food progression.

Soybean crops require irrigated soil and take several days to grow before harvest. The harvested Soybeans are then combined with Canola Oil at a Fermenter to produce Fermented Soybeans. This means establishing Soybean-based food production requires two separate agricultural chains running in parallel: Soybean farming and Canola farming (to produce the oil via the Oil Press). The investment in this dual supply chain pays off with a higher-quality food product.

When planning Soybean production, ensure your farmland allocation includes plots for both Soybeans and Canola. The Oil Press converts Canola Seeds into Canola Oil, which is then consumed alongside Soybeans at the Fermenter. Coordinate the output rates of both crops to avoid bottlenecks: producing excess Soybeans without enough Canola Oil (or vice versa) wastes valuable farmland and labor. Soybeans contribute to the Iron Teeth's diverse fermented food economy and provide strong nutrition satisfaction when processed.
