Fermenter

The Fermenter is the Iron Teeth faction's first food processing building, unlocked for 500 Science Points and employing 1 worker on a compact 1x3 footprint. Built from 25 Logs and requiring 50 horsepower to operate, it transforms raw crops into fermented foods through three distinct recipes: Fermented Cassava (4 Cassava yields 10 servings over 2 cycles), Fermented Soybean (6 Soybean plus 1 Canola Oil yields 20 servings over 3 cycles), and Fermented Mushroom (4 Mushrooms yields 16 servings over 2 cycles). As the flavor text warns, following a few incidents the list of products allowed for fermentation is strictly limited, but these three recipes provide exceptional nutritional output per input.

The Fermenter integrates tightly with the Iron Teeth crop and processing ecosystem. Cassava comes directly from the Farmhouse and represents the simplest fermentation recipe with no secondary ingredients required. Fermented Soybean is more complex, requiring Canola Oil from the Oil Press in addition to Soybeans, but it yields an impressive 20 servings per batch. Fermented Mushroom uses Mushrooms from the Hydroponic Garden; approximately 8 Hydroponic Gardens are needed to keep one Fermenter supplied with a steady flow of Mushrooms for this recipe. Each recipe provides a unique food type, so running multiple Fermenters on different products contributes significantly to food variety and beaver wellbeing.

Strategically, the Fermenter should be among your first powered buildings after establishing basic Kohlrabi farming. Start with Fermented Cassava as it requires only the Farmhouse and a power source, then expand to Fermented Soybean once you have an Oil Press processing Canola Seeds. The Fermenter accepts and transmits power, making it easy to integrate into your shaft network. Position it near warehouses stocked with its input ingredients, and plan your crop field ratios to match production needs. In the late game, combine Fermenters with Food Factories and Hydroponic Gardens to create a comprehensive Iron Teeth food production district that delivers maximum variety with minimal wasted resources.
