Canola Seeds

food_ingredient

Canola Seeds are a mid-game agricultural ingredient exclusive to the Iron Teeth faction in Timberborn, harvested from Canola crops grown at Farmhouses. Canola Seeds cannot be consumed directly; instead, they must be processed at an Oil Press to produce Canola Oil, which is then used in multiple downstream recipes. The Canola crop is planted on irrigated farmland and requires several days to mature before harvest.

The primary purpose of Canola Seeds is as the raw material for Canola Oil production at the Oil Press. Canola Oil is a versatile ingredient used in producing Fermented Soybeans (at the Fermenter), Eggplant Rations and Algae Rations (at the Food Factory), and Grease (at the Grease Factory). This makes Canola Seeds an indirect but essential input for multiple food and industrial production chains within the Iron Teeth economy.

Dedicate a portion of your irrigated farmland to Canola cultivation, especially once you have an Oil Press operational. Since Canola Oil feeds into so many downstream products, Canola farming has an outsized impact on your colony's food diversity and industrial capability. Monitor your Canola Oil consumption rates and scale farming accordingly. During droughts, Canola crops will not grow, so building up reserves of both raw Canola Seeds and processed Canola Oil before dry seasons is important for maintaining production continuity.
