Suspension Bridge

paths_and_structures

The Suspension Bridge is a versatile Paths and Structures building that allows beavers and Bots to cross gaps, rivers, and ravines without needing to build solid foundations underneath. Unlocked for 250 Science Points, Suspension Bridges come in multiple lengths (from 1x1 up to 6x1) and can span distances of up to 6 tiles, making them the go-to solution for crossing water features and terrain gaps. They connect directly to Paths on either end, maintaining district connectivity across otherwise impassable terrain.

Suspension Bridges are critical infrastructure on maps with rivers, canyons, or fragmented terrain. Unlike Platforms, which require solid support from below, Suspension Bridges hang freely across gaps, allowing water to flow unobstructed beneath them. This makes them ideal for crossing rivers near Dams and Levees without interfering with your water management systems. They are also useful for connecting separated landmasses or creating shortcuts across terrain features that would otherwise require lengthy detours through paths and stairs.

When planning bridge placement, consider both the current terrain and future water management plans. A Suspension Bridge placed at the wrong height might block water flow or become submerged during floods. For very wide crossings that exceed the 6-tile maximum span, you can chain multiple Suspension Bridges together using intermediate Platform supports. In late-game colonies, Zipline Stations (Folktails) and Tubeway Stations (Iron Teeth) may replace some bridge routes for faster transit, but Suspension Bridges remain essential for basic pedestrian access across water features throughout the entire game.
