Metal Platform
paths_and_structures
The Metal Platform is an advanced structural building that provides a thin 3x3 elevated surface supported by a single 1x1 central column, all at just one block in height. Unlocked for 1000 Science Points and constructed from Metal Blocks, this platform represents a significant upgrade over the basic wooden Platform. Its key advantage is the 3x3 top surface, which offers nine tiles of buildable space while only occupying a single ground tile for its support column. This makes Metal Platforms exceptionally space-efficient for creating elevated building areas in dense settlements.
Metal Platforms are particularly useful when placed on Overhangs or in locations where ground space is at a premium. Because the platform top extends beyond its base footprint, you can create elevated plazas and building surfaces that overhang rivers, existing structures, or terrain features. They work well in combination with Stairs and Paths to build expansive upper-level districts. The Metal Block construction cost means you will need a functioning Smelter processing Scrap Metal before you can build these, placing them firmly in the mid-to-late game progression.
When planning your colony layout, Metal Platforms shine in situations where you need to maximize vertical building density. Use them to create elevated production floors above ground-level water infrastructure, or to build rooftop gardens and housing above existing factories. They pair especially well with Impermeable Floors for constructing elevated aqueducts and water distribution systems. For even larger elevated surfaces, consider upgrading to the Large Metal Platform, which provides a 5x5 top surface for truly massive elevated construction projects.
