Metal Blocks

Metal Blocks are the premier late-game construction material in Timberborn, required for the most advanced and powerful buildings in the game. They are produced at the Smelter by combining 2 Scrap Metal with a small amount of Logs used as fuel. The smelting process takes approximately 2 hours per Metal Block and requires 200 horsepower, making it a power-intensive operation. Because Metal Blocks sit at the end of a long production chain (trees to Logs, Logs to Planks, Planks to Treated Planks, Treated Planks to mining for Scrap Metal, Scrap Metal to smelting), they represent one of the highest-value goods in the game.

Metal Blocks are needed for constructing the most advanced structures, including the Bot Part Factory, Bot Assembler, Charging Stations, and various industrial and scientific buildings. Many of these late-game buildings require significant quantities of Metal Blocks, so establishing efficient smelting operations early in the mid-game pays dividends later. Metal Blocks are also processed further into Metal Parts at specialized workshops, which are used in even more advanced constructions.

To maintain steady Metal Block production, you need a well-oiled supply chain. Start by ensuring your Scrap Metal flow is reliable, either through active mining or scavenging. Keep your Smelter fueled with Logs and powered continuously. Since the Smelter consumes both Scrap Metal and Logs, it competes with Lumber Mills, Paper Mills, and cooking facilities for your wood supply. Plan your forestry output to accommodate this demand. Stockpiling Metal Blocks before undertaking major construction projects is highly recommended, as running out mid-build can leave critical infrastructure incomplete during droughts.
