Algae Rations
food_processed
Algae Rations are a late-game food exclusive to the Iron Teeth faction in Timberborn, produced at the Food Factory by combining 20 Algae and 20 Canola Oil to yield 60 rations. This conversion represents one of the most advanced food production processes in the game, requiring both hydroponic Algae cultivation and conventional Canola farming to supply the necessary ingredients. Algae Rations satisfy hunger and provide nutrition bonuses for beaver well-being.
The production chain for Algae Rations spans two very different agricultural systems. Algae grows in Hydroponic Gardens over a 12-day cycle, while Canola Seeds grow on irrigated farmland and are processed into Canola Oil at an Oil Press. Coordinating these two production timelines is a significant logistical challenge, as the Algae growth rate is much slower than typical crop cycles. The Food Factory must be carefully managed to produce Algae Rations alongside other recipes like Corn Rations and Eggplant Rations.
Algae Rations are most valuable as a drought-resistant food source. While Canola Oil production halts during droughts (since Canola crops require irrigation), Algae continues growing in Hydroponic Gardens. By stockpiling Canola Oil before dry seasons and pairing it with freshly harvested Algae, you can produce Algae Rations even when all outdoor farming has stopped. This makes Algae Rations a strategic food reserve for the most challenging drought periods, complementing other Iron Teeth foods in a comprehensive late-game diet.
