Pine

common

Pine is a versatile, common tree available to all factions in Timberborn, maturing in 12 days and yielding 2 Logs when felled. Beyond its solid lumber output, Pine is the only common tree that produces a secondary resource: Pine Resin. This resin is harvested by Tapper's Shacks every 7 days from mature trees, where a worker taps the tree to extract the resin without felling it. Pine Resin serves as a critical material in crafting Treated Planks. With 13 days of drought resistance, Pine is the second-hardiest tree in the game after Oak, making it a reliable choice for drought-prone maps.

Pine Resin is one of the more important secondary tree products in the game, used primarily in the production of Treated Planks at the Wood Workshop, where it is combined with Planks. Because Pine trees produce both Logs and Pine Resin, a well-managed Pine forest effectively serves double duty, supplying your Lumberjacks with timber while simultaneously providing resin for Tapper's Shacks. Players must decide which Pines to designate for tapping and which to leave for lumberjacks. A dedicated Pine grove near your Tapper's Shacks is the most efficient approach, ensuring tappers have short travel distances and plenty of mature trees to work with.

From a strategic perspective, Pine is often the first upgrade over Birch that players pursue once their settlement has stabilized. Its 12-day growth cycle is short enough to fit within most drought schedules on standard maps, while its 2-log yield provides meaningful output. On maps where Pine Resin is needed for advanced buildings or crafting, dedicating at least one Forester exclusively to Pine is highly recommended. For Iron Teeth players who lack access to Maple and Chestnut, Pine becomes especially important as a dual-purpose tree alongside Mangrove for aquatic zones. Folktails players may eventually shift toward Maple or Chestnut for their food-producing secondary resources, but Pine remains relevant throughout the game whenever resin is in demand. Compared to the slow-growing Oak, Pine offers a much faster turnaround, making it the preferred choice for settlements that need a steady, reliable flow of both wood and crafting materials.
