Terraces

standard

Terraces is a 256x256 standard-difficulty map that inverts the typical Timberborn experience by starting players on a high plateau and challenging them to expand downward through a series of dramatic elevation drops. Unlike most maps where settlements grow upward from river valleys, Terraces features a very vertical landscape with a small stream near the starting plateau that flows down through stepped terrain. The map provides 15 Water Sources totaling 15.5 cubic meters per second and 4 Badwater Sources totaling 11.0 cubic meters per second, along with 4 Underground Ruins containing 16,125 units of scrap.

The stepped terrain creates natural terraced platforms at multiple elevation levels, each requiring its own water management and infrastructure solutions. Water cascades from the high plateau down through the terraces, and players must build dams at each level to retain water that would otherwise flow downhill and off the map. This creates a series of stacked reservoirs, each feeding the level below through controlled floodgates or spillways. The vertical layout demands creative use of stairs, platforms, and multi-level buildings to connect districts at different heights. Farming on Terraces requires careful irrigation planning, as water must be retained at each level to keep crops hydrated.

The significant Badwater presence (11.0 cubic meters per second from 4 sources) adds a serious contamination challenge to the already complex vertical layout. During Badtide events, contaminated water flows downhill through the same channels as clean water, potentially poisoning multiple terraced levels simultaneously. Players must build contamination barriers at each elevation tier, not just at the top. The map's generous tree coverage (752 mature birch, 939 mature pine, and 584 mature oak) provides ample building materials for the extensive infrastructure required. Terraces rewards players who enjoy engineering challenges and multi-level settlement design, making it one of the most architecturally interesting maps in Timberborn.
