Large Pile
storage
The Large Pile is an upgraded pile storage building unlocked for 250 Science Points and costing 6 Logs to construct. With a generous 180-unit storage capacity, it holds nine times more goods than the Small Pile, making it the standard pile storage building for established colonies. Like all piles, it stores a single type of pile-compatible good: Logs, Planks, Treated Planks, Scrap Metal, Metal Blocks, or Dirt. The Large Pile provides a substantial boost to your colony's storage infrastructure at a modest cost.
Large Piles are the workhorse of material storage for most of the game. Their 180-unit capacity is sufficient to buffer the output of multiple production buildings, preventing resource bottlenecks in your supply chains. Place them at central locations in your production districts where haulers from multiple buildings can access them efficiently. A few Large Piles dedicated to Logs near your forestry operations, Planks near your Wood Workshops, and construction materials near active building sites can dramatically smooth out the flow of goods through your economy.
For faction-specific storage upgrades, Folktails players can eventually build Underground Piles with even larger capacity, while Iron Teeth players have access to Small and Large Industrial Piles that offer stackable storage. However, the Large Pile remains relevant throughout the game due to its low cost, common availability to both factions, and solid capacity. When organizing your storage districts, group Large Piles by material type and place them along efficient hauling routes between production and consumption buildings. Consider maintaining dedicated Dirt storage using Large Piles near your Terraforming Station and Dirt Excavator for terraforming operations.
