Dandelion

The Dandelion is a Folktails-exclusive resource in Timberborn classified as a food ingredient, though it cannot be consumed directly by beavers. Dandelions are harvested from Dandelion Bushes by workers assigned to a Gatherer Flag, the same building used to collect Berries and Chestnuts. Each Dandelion Bush yields 1 Dandelion per harvest and regrows on a fast 3-day cycle, making Dandelions a reliably renewable resource. Once collected, Dandelions are stored in a standard Warehouse and await processing into their primary end product: Antidote, the only medicine in Timberborn that cures Badwater contamination sickness.

The sole use for Dandelions in Timberborn is Antidote production. At the Refinery (a Folktails Science building), 2 Dandelions are converted into 1 Antidote over the course of 1 crafting hour. The resulting Antidote is then distributed to sick beavers through the Herbalist building, which serves as the medical treatment facility. This means the full Dandelion supply chain involves three linked structures: the Gatherer Flag (harvesting), the Refinery (crafting), and the Herbalist (treatment). Because Antidote demand can spike dramatically during Badtide events when contaminated water floods the map, maintaining a reserve stockpile of Dandelions is strongly recommended even during calm periods.

In the broader Timberborn resource chain, Dandelions occupy a unique niche as a purely medicinal ingredient with no alternative uses. Unlike Berries or Chestnuts, which provide direct nutrition, Dandelions exist solely to support colony health during contamination emergencies. Folktails players should begin planting Dandelion Bushes and gathering Dandelions early in the game, since Badwater events can arrive suddenly and without a ready supply of Dandelions, there is no way to produce Antidote quickly enough to save contaminated beavers. A well-prepared colony keeps at least 20 to 30 Dandelions stockpiled at all times, ensuring the Refinery can produce enough Antidote to handle even severe contamination outbreaks. Position your Dandelion gathering operations, Refinery, and Herbalist in close proximity to minimize transit times and maximize your medical response speed.
