Kohlrabies

Kohlrabies are an early-game food exclusive to the Iron Teeth faction in Timberborn, serving a similar role to Carrots for the Folktails. Grown and harvested by beavers working at Farmhouses, Kohlrabies are a staple crop that provides both hunger satisfaction and a dedicated nutrition need. As one of the first foods available to Iron Teeth colonies, Kohlrabies form the nutritional backbone of early settlements before more advanced food production comes online.

Kohlrabi crops are planted on irrigated farmland and require several days to mature before harvest. Like other basic crops, they are destroyed upon harvesting and must be replanted, creating a continuous cycle of planting and gathering that keeps Farmhouse workers busy. Kohlrabies can be consumed directly without any processing or cooking, which means no additional buildings, fuel, or power are needed beyond the Farmhouse itself.

For Iron Teeth players, Kohlrabies should be planted immediately and in generous quantities. They provide the food security needed to expand your colony in the early game, freeing up resources and labor for more complex food production chains later. During droughts, Kohlrabi crops will not grow due to lack of irrigation, so stockpiling before dry seasons is essential. As your colony develops Fermenters and Food Factories, Kohlrabies will be supplemented by more advanced foods like Fermented Cassava and Corn Rations, but they remain a reliable fallback food source throughout the game.
