Paper to Books
common
The Paper to Books recipe transforms 1 Paper into 1 Book at the Printing Press, with each batch taking approximately 2 hours. Books are a high-value leisure good that satisfies beavers' intellectual curiosity, contributing significantly to colony happiness and well-being. This recipe is available to all factions, though the upstream Paper supply chain differs: Folktails produce Paper at their Paper Mill, while Iron Teeth obtain it through their own production methods.
Books occupy the final step in a multi-stage production chain that begins with felling trees. Logs are processed into Paper (at the Paper Mill), and Paper is then bound into Books at the Printing Press. The Printing Press employs 2 workers and requires 150 horsepower, making it a moderately power-intensive operation. Because each step in the chain has its own time cost and power requirement, maintaining a steady flow of Books demands careful planning of your entire wood-to-knowledge pipeline.
To keep your beavers well-read, establish at least one Printing Press for every 30 to 50 adult beavers, adjusting based on how frequently they visit the Book-consuming leisure building. Placing a Printing Press near both your Paper storage and the relevant leisure buildings helps reduce hauling time and keeps the supply chain tight. Books do not spoil, so building up a reserve during periods of high Paper production is a smart strategy. Investing in this recipe early pays dividends in colony morale, reducing the risk of unhappiness-driven population decline.
