Need
Knowledge
fun
Knowledge was formerly a standalone need category in Timberborn, satisfied by consuming Books. As of the April 7, 2026 patch (released on International Beaver Day), the Knowledge category was removed from the game. Books now satisfy the Fun need instead, joining other Fun-satisfying activities like the Carousel, Dance Hall, and Swimming Pool. This change simplified the need system by consolidating intellectual satisfaction into the broader Fun category.
Books remain the primary good that was previously associated with this need. They are produced at the Printing Press from Paper, which is manufactured from Logs at the Paper Mill. Each Book consumed by a beaver now contributes to their Fun satisfaction rather than a separate Knowledge bar. The production chain remains the same: Logs to Paper at the Paper Mill, then Paper to Books at the Printing Press. Since Books now compete with other Fun sources for beaver attention, players may find that their existing Book production infrastructure serves a broader purpose in the post-patch economy.
For players updating from earlier versions, the practical impact of this change is minimal. Books still provide a well-being bonus and are still worth producing. The main difference is that beavers now have more options for satisfying Fun, so Books are no longer the sole way to fill this particular need slot. Players who had invested heavily in Book production chains may want to balance their Fun infrastructure with a mix of activity buildings and Book supply to maximize beaver well-being efficiently.
