Kits are the youngest life stage of beavers in Timberborn, representing newborns produced through breeding. At the base Growth Speed, Kits mature into Adults after 6 days. During this time, they are unable to work and spend their days fulfilling their own Needs, including Hunger, Thirst, Sleep, and Shelter. Kits consume less food and water than Adults, but they still require a steady supply of resources to survive. If a Kit's Hunger or Thirst reaches zero, the same starvation and dehydration mechanics apply as with Adults, eventually leading to death. Kits are produced by Folktails through natural reproduction in housing buildings and by Iron Teeth through Breeding Pods.

The most important factor affecting Kit growth is Well-Being. A Kit's Growth Speed is directly tied to its individual Well-Being score, with bonuses scaling up to +75% at high Well-Being levels. This means a well-cared-for Kit can mature in significantly less than 6 days, sometimes as quickly as 3 to 4 days. Conversely, a starving Kit suffers a -40% Growth Speed penalty, extending the maturation period considerably. Because Well-Being affects both Growth Speed and Life Expectancy, colonies with high Well-Being naturally have a smaller proportion of Kits in their population (as low as 3.12%), compared to struggling colonies where Kits can make up 12% or more of the total population.

Managing Kits effectively is a key part of colony planning. Since Kits cannot contribute to the workforce, a sudden baby boom can strain food and water supplies without adding any productive capacity. Players should ensure adequate housing (Lodges for Folktails, Barracks or Rowhouses for Iron Teeth) and sufficient food stockpiles before ramping up breeding. Iron Teeth players can bypass the Kit stage entirely by using Advanced Breeding Pods, which produce fully grown Adults at the cost of higher resource investment. This is particularly useful during rapid expansion or recovery from population crises. Monitoring the Kit-to-Adult ratio and adjusting Breeding Pod output accordingly helps maintain a balanced and productive colony.
