Breeding Pod

housing

The Breeding Pod is the Iron Teeth faction's primary method of population growth, producing new beaver kits through a mechanical process that requires Water and Berries as inputs. This compact 1x1 building costs 250 Science Points to unlock and 10 Logs to construct, making it accessible in the early-to-mid game once your berry farming and Water supply are established. Each Breeding Pod stores up to 2 Water and 2 Berries, consuming 5 of each over a 5-day cycle to produce a single kit. Unemployed beavers, haulers, or workers during off-hours deliver the required nutrients to keep production running.

The Breeding Pod represents a fundamental difference between Iron Teeth and Folktails gameplay. While Folktails beavers breed naturally in their Lodges, Iron Teeth players must deliberately allocate resources to population growth through these mechanical facilities. This gives Iron Teeth players precise control over when and how fast their population expands, but it also means that neglecting your Breeding Pods (or running short on Water and Berries) will halt population growth entirely. The pod displays a "Breeding halted" status when nutrients are unavailable, serving as an early warning that your supply chain needs attention.

For a healthy Iron Teeth colony, you will want multiple Breeding Pods running simultaneously, each steadily producing kits that mature into working adults. Plan your Berry farm and Water pump capacity to support both your existing population's consumption and your Breeding Pod inputs. A single Breeding Pod producing one kit every 5 days is relatively slow, so scaling up to 3 or more pods is recommended for steady growth. Once you have access to Metal Blocks and Extract, consider upgrading to Advanced Breeding Pods, which produce fully grown adults instead of kits, effectively eliminating the maturation waiting period and boosting your effective workforce growth rate by 10 to 20 percent.
