Large Water Wheel
power
The Large Water Wheel is the premier water-powered generator for the Iron Teeth faction, requiring 500 Science Points to unlock and delivering up to approximately 180 horsepower under optimal conditions. It is significantly larger than the Compact Water Wheel and must be placed in deeper water, but its superior output makes it one of the most powerful passive generators in the game. Like all water-based power buildings, it requires no workers and no fuel, converting the kinetic energy of flowing fluids directly into mechanical power for the colony's grid.
Placement is critical for the Large Water Wheel. It needs deep, fast-flowing water to reach peak efficiency, so players must invest in robust water infrastructure including Dams, Levees, and Floodgates to maintain strong currents. A well-designed river channel with several Large Water Wheels can produce enough power to run an entire district's worth of workshops, Numbercrunchers, and Charging Stations. However, this dependence on water flow means that droughts pose a serious threat; when rivers slow or dry up, these generators lose most or all of their output.
To mitigate the drought vulnerability, experienced Iron Teeth players often pair Large Water Wheels with Gravity Batteries that store excess energy during wet seasons for use during dry periods. Engines burning Logs and water provide another reliable backup. The Large Water Wheel represents the pinnacle of the Iron Teeth's passive power generation capabilities, and a colony that can keep water flowing year-round through clever engineering will enjoy a massive, maintenance-free energy supply that scales beautifully as the settlement grows.
