Thousand Islands

standard

Thousand Islands is a 256x256 standard-difficulty map that transforms the typical Timberborn experience into an aquatic archipelago challenge. The map's description sets the stage: "Even for natural born swimmers, turning an archipelago into a thriving industrial colony is no easy task." Dominated by water, the landscape consists of numerous small islands separated by wide channels, creating a fragmented terrain where land is scarce and water management takes on a completely different character. The map boasts an enormous 35 Water Sources producing 54.0 cubic meters per second and 9 Badwater Sources at 27.0 cubic meters per second, making it one of the wettest and most Badwater-heavy maps available.

The primary challenge on Thousand Islands is not storing water (it is everywhere) but rather controlling and blocking it to reclaim buildable land. Players must think of water as an obstacle rather than a resource to be hoarded, using dams, levees, and floodgates to wall off sections of the archipelago and drain them for construction. Creating farmland requires pushing water back and maintaining dry areas, which is the reverse of the typical Timberborn approach. During Droughts, the massive water volume means that pools persist longer than on most maps, but the Badtide threat is equally massive, with 27.0 cubic meters per second of contaminated flow requiring extensive diversion infrastructure.

Resources on Thousand Islands are distributed across the scattered landmasses, with 3 Underground Ruins, 12,075 units of scrap, 286 bushes, and a healthy forest canopy of 488 mature birch, 748 mature pine, and 575 mature oak. The distributed island layout encourages a multi-district approach, with each island cluster serving as a semi-independent settlement connected by bridges and paths. The Iron Teeth faction may have an advantage here due to their Badwater management tools, which are essential for handling the enormous contamination volumes. Folktails players will need to invest heavily in levees and diversion channels. Thousand Islands rewards creative engineering and patience, offering a unique gameplay experience quite unlike any other standard map in Timberborn.
